Got my new passport FINALLY on Thursday, 29/03/07.

Found and confirmed with a host for a week of farmstay in Karamea, West Coast of South Island...yeepee! They have lambs, cows, and horses..yeehaa!!!
FYI-other than wwoof, help exchange (www.helpx.net ) is another useful portal for backpackers to find hosts or travel companions.

Amendment: I made a mistake about the fare to tak a ferry to cross cook straight, apparently the NZ100++ i found was for 2 adults not 1!
