The Glacier Adventure
The next morning, we checked out the nice Backpackers and head towards the Franz Josef Glacier! All three of us (George, yd and I) were excited as we all had never seen a glacier before and didn't know what to expect. I mean can you imagine a freaking frozen river cutting through the mountains throughout the years regardless of the weather and season? And it's not just some freaking glaciers but relics from the last Ice Age! The wonder of nature is simply amazing and awe inspiring. However, the Glaciers have been retreating throughout the years. I read it from the information signage that back in 1930s, the place where we were walking on currently used to be the river access, with icebergs along the passage to the glaciers. Those lucky tourists back then! But then, I imagined decades after when the glaciers have retreated and left only some small ice cubes, people would probably thinking the same, 'those lucky bastards back in 2000s!!!' while frantically taking pictures of the remaining ice cubes! :D
We were not supposed to go beyond this point except if we are on guided glacier climbing tour. However, we decided to ignore the warning sign (please don't try this, we were bad examples!) to get closer look at the glacier. Half way through, we were stopped by two rangers. At first we thought they were gonna tell us off for sure, but turned out, they weren't. They were just trying to warn us off the possible danger and such as the path that we were walking on was in fact the middle of river just a week ago when the weather was wet! The rangers reminded us of some safety issues to take note and let us go after we assured them that we were not attempting to climb the glacier at all.

In case you wonder, the temperature around wasn't really any colder than elsewhere.
The waterfalls
the water was freaking freezing cold!
We didn't take many photos at the glacier because right after we arrived, there was a huge dust like dark shadow on his lens which can only be seen through the view finder. He tried couple of shots and though the preview pictures on the screen seemed fine, but he was super worried and scared, and didn't have the mood to take many pictures. In the end, it was indeed some weird dust and he managed to blow it out after we got back to the car. Phew!some vibrant red rocks with green moss
