Long Travelling Day and Sleepless Night in Wellington

It's gonna be a long travelling day for us. We'd booked the 1.40pm nakedbus scheduled to arrive Wellington around 8pm. Then we would look for cheapest transport to the airport and put up a night to catch next morning 7.45am flight to Picton, South Island. We would be travelling 400+km today!

We bid farewell with Itay and wished him luck (as he was going to bungy jump) in the morning, checked out the backpackers and left our big baggage at the free storage provided so we could wander around Taupo town before our bus came. Most backpackers has this facility but of course it's 'store at your own risk'. It would be wise to carry all valueable items with you in a day pack.

We hang around lake Taupo idly, taking our own sweet time lying on the green grass, taking nap and lunch by the lake. Such carefree abundance indeed!

And we've got companies!

my life is miserable, i don't even want to be a duck...

easy, mate, c'est la vie

well..guess u r right

Our bus was late. We tried to call the toll free number of the company but neither our prepaid mobile service nor the public phone allowed the call to the toll free number. It can only be made from a landline! We were relieved when the bus finally arrived almost an hour behind schedule. And it was in fact the very same driver who had dropped us off at Taupo 2 days ago! He explained to us apologetically that the traffic was extremely slow somewhere.

It was a nice and scenic, albeit long journey.

i still couldn't help getting all excited whenever we passed by grazing lands with hundreds and thousands of sheep scattering all

on the road

we passed by the 'dessert drive'

and saw some 'unusual' cloud as the driver described

and saw the sky and clouds painted in shades of blue and purple in dusk

By the time we arrived at Wellington, it was nearly 9pm. Thanks to Koo, who helped us look up the internet for transport to get to the airport from wellington city while we were still travelling in the bus, we knew that there were few options:
The cheapest was Stage Coach which cost $5 pax but the last coach to airport left from city at 7.45pm.
Another option was to call the co-op shuttle, which was $15 for single, and additional $5 for every other passenger travelling in group. So for 2 persons, it cost $20.
The last option was to take cab and it would be around $30

We got off at the railway station and boy was it windy! We called the co-op shuttle and requested to be picked up from the railway station in 30min so we could grab a quick meal at the food kiosk beside the station.

We arrived at Wellington airport around 9.30pm. We were excited when we found an i-station which camera was working fine and sent some emails. Afterwards, we settled in the best spots we could find and took turns to shower and change. Later, an airport security guard came over and asked what we were up to. Planning to hijack the earliest plane tomorrow and blow up the airport! I felt so compelled to tell him that, instead I tried to put on my most innocent and charming smile and said,
"Nothing. Our flight is early next morning. Is there a problem?"
"Nope. But the airport is closing soon and just so you know you are not allowed to go out or wander around after this. Of course you may go to the washrooms but other than that, you shall remain here."
"OK, sure, we are not going anywhere" (not even if you want to chase us away!)

After he left us, I tried to sleep on a blanket and makeshift pillow (by stuffing clothes into pillow case), to no avail. The music was on and the same record was repeating all night. And the activities and noise from the shops and cafe staff busy closing down didn't cease until around 2am, after which the music was still on, except the volume being tuned down. Not long after I finally started to doze off after the gazzillionth sheep i'd counted, the airport was buzzing with early arrival and departing passengers and shops opening again, at 4am! :( Well, strictly speaking, the experience wasn't as bad as that I had in Barcelona as I was better prepared with blanket and makeshift pillow this time, but it was definitely not pleasant at all!
